Online Predators

With the increase use of the internet, the world in today era seems to be in unlimited borders where every thing could be done in ‘online’. Online give to the world a definition of technology where people could interact face to face indifferently from any other conventional tools. With this advancement people could seek their fortune and wealth in the new forms and perhaps change their way of their life for better improvements
.
Indeed, there are no doubts that technology could bring prosperity and affluences towards the man kind generally and the internet users specifically. However internet should not be perceived as perfect towards the human society. A recent studied conduct in 2008 by Ezine Articles shows that Internet influential is far more superior to any other type form of media available to mankind.

Dangers lurks everywhere

Child sexual exploitation occurs in every economic, social, ethnic, and religious group. With the explosion of the Internet into a powerful, worldwide medium, the danger to children, whether they are from Kuala Lumpur or New York, has drastically increased. Pedophiles and other sexual predators can use the Internet, with no precautions, to exchange names and addresses of other pedophiles and of potential child victims. Hidden behind screen names that are pseudonyms, they gather online and swap child pornography with amazing speed and in amounts beyond our wildest imagination, which excites them to molest even more.

This surprising fact however could be related to unsurprising habits of the mankind itself when they are using the Internet services. According to RAINN which is Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network 44%of victims for internet sexual abuse are under age 18 whereby 80% are still under age 30. This disturbing fact also show that every two minutes someone in U.S. is sexually assaulted.

On the other hand, RAINN also reported that there are several types of sexual assaults which are rape, acquaintance rape, partner rape, hate crimes, incest, stalking, sexual exploitations, sexual harassments and male sexual assault. It is not surprise that all of this type of assault could occurs to the victims while they are using the internet as the medium to socialize with others.

Realizing on how the dangers of internet online predator are, government has taken measure to overcome the factor that could contribute the children into the statistics. For example in Malaysia, the PDRM has created their own special task force to deal with this type of crime. Not only it involve sexual assault but also identity thief or fraud which fall under its jurisdictions. Other that took the initiative is some Malaysia governments’ agencies which emphasize on the safety when being ‘online’. The MOSTI and KPWKM plays a vital role in the campaign to promote, educated and create awareness about the danger of internet if it is not being watched carefully.

Thus at the same time parents should share the burden and hand to hand with the government in regards to make sure that the misuse of internet should be minimize not only acted as a watch dog but also as an enforcement like to put a ‘filter’ on their computers. By this way not all the information can easily send or received. Plus it could also minimize the chance to be stalked by anonymous in the internet in which most of the cases internet users doesn’t know who are they communicate to and what are their background.

Domestic Violence in Malaysia: Challenge and Outcome

Abuse has many categories and one of it is domestic violence. People popular perceptions regarding domestic violence is only occur in the family where the husband will beat up his spouse and leave a physical injury. This bias perception is debatable whereby domestic violence could be interpreted as abusive behaviors by one or both partners in an intimate relationship such as marriage, dating, family, friends or cohabitation.

It has many forms of violence include physical aggression like hitting, kicking, biting shoving restraining slapping or throwing objects. Some believes unwillingness of their spouse to make sex with his or her partners could also be interpreted as sexual abuse. Apart from that emotionally abuse like threat, controlling or domineering, intimidation, stalking, passive/covert abuse and economic deprivation could also contributed to harms.

Experts and scholars believe that domestic violence could give significant trauma for those who affected directly or indirectly. The physical effect is the most common when it leaves physical marks so that other people can see it. These marks could include bruises, broken bones, head injuries, lacerations, and internal bleeding are some of the acute effects of a domestic violence incident that require medical attention and hospitalization.

For psychological effects it will stunned the victims to extend in which the abuse has taken away their autonomy. Sometimes due to economic abuse and isolation, the victim usually has very little money of their own and few people on whom they can rely when seeking help. Domestic violence can trigger many different responses in victims. Major consequences of domestic violence victimization include psychological/mental health issues and chronic physical health problems.

There are many theories regarding to the cause of domestic violence. Many of researchers believe that psychology plays the significant factors for the preparatory to commit the violence. These factors include the environment whereby the surrounding is incontinence or tension. A part from that the family chain in the family systems in broke down where family values is not regard as priority that should be given at the first places. Stress also contribute to main factors where if someone failed to managed his tress properly it is presumed that the person will find alternatives ways to unleashed his or her fury and by that time the violence will happen.

In Malaysia as being emphasize by Gaayathri Prabakaran who is an activist that fight against human violence in Malaysia state that “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life” which is also coincide with united Nations definations regarding Violance againts Womens.

Statistics show that from 2000 until 2006 the charts for domestic violence are upside down which mean that it is unstable and no concrete measure has been taken to measure these incidents. The statistics which occurred from Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) show that in 2008, 3769 cases have been reported for domestic’s violence.

In Malaysia in order to overcome the domestic violence Malaysian government has create a new ministry of department which is Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM).  The main objectives of this ministry to uphold and give proper helps for those who being affected by domestics violence. Apart from that Malaysia government also has enable the act regarding domestic violence which is Domestic Violence Act of 1994 (DVA). Safe house or shelter has also being created in order to give proper protections for the victims and the establishment of One Stop Crises Center (OSCC). However the most popular measure to be taken to overcome this crisis is by awareness campaign by both the government and NGOs which is coincide with prevention is better than cure.
