Oil – From Crude to Gasoline
Salam and hey yo,
Every time when we heard the oil prices is up then instantly we will FCUK the government right? But then is it occurs to you how the oil that we see on tv is portrait thick, black crude oil gushing out from the drilling platform will end up in ur tank as crystal clear? Well u have it folks it take a lot of time, energy, and resources to process it from crude into gasoline, so maybe in the future u might think first why the prices is constantly increase and thus, that’s why this ‘black gold’ is crazy in demand now.

Orait, if u all may know that oil is also being use to make plastics, crayons, synthetics fibers, kerosene and bla…bla…bla… The crude oil or here in Malaysia we called it as ‘Minyak mentah’ is the unprocessed oil that came out of the ground which in the jargon term we called it as Petroleum. Petroleum is a fossil fuel which was made from the decaying plants and animals that live during the ancient time (probably during the Jurassic era!). The petroleum couldn’t be use right away because it varies in color and in viscosity (from liquid to almost solid). This petroleum is very rich in hydrocarbon which contains hydrogen and carbon and come in various lengths and structure.

Since petroleum contain lot of hydrocarbon, thanx to the technology an easiest way has been developed on how to separate these hydrocarbons (called fractions) and the process is called oil refining. Wat happen during the refining process is petroleum will be heated and difference chains of these hydrocarbons will be pulled out by vaporizing process and each chains has it owns benefits or use or again in the jargon term this process is called fractional distillation. (See the illustration below for better understanding).

During the process also the refines must treat the fractions to remove the impurities and also combine the various fractions sometimes process or unprocessed to make desired products. Alas the so called products are stored on-site or in a tanker before being shipped or delivered to various markets eg. airport, gas stations, chemical plans etc....

Well there u have it folks, actually it involves LOT OF PROCESS pertaining chemistry in which I barely understand (Adoi) so I just write down in a simple English word to avoid any inaccurate facts or scientific terms. So next time when the oil price up, do think twice b4 u start complaining coz there are many factors that could contribute to the increase like the stability in the oil fields regions or natural factors but that is another chap to be told.
